BLOSSOM.

“The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.” – Mulan’s Father (Mulan, 1998)

After researching the animation of hands in my bachelor thesis, I wanted to put my findings into practice. Inspired by the Mulan quote, I rigged the hand model in Maya, imported it into Houdini, and created a petal simulation that makes the flower bloom in a time lapse as it is hit by light rays. 

The final piece was rendered with Karma and composited in After Effects.
