BY AND BY.

“By and By” is a short movie I did in collaboration with two colleagues at university. I was responsible for modelling, lighting, rendering, VFX and compositing you see in it.

Right from the start of the project, it was clear that we wanted to take a step back from reality with a short film. Realistic assets are replaced by watercolour textures (made by Isabelle Posch) that contrast with the realistic proportions of the models. Thematically, “By and By” deals with one of the most present themes of our time: deceleration. Imagine people deciding to literally take a step back and only move around on foot, by bike or similar. Trains, cars, aeroplanes and ships come to a standstill. However, in the spirit of sustainability, the old vehicles are not simply scrapped, but recycled and remodelled into different living spaces. Far from a dystopia, our world represents an optimistic and peaceful vision of the future.
